The Enchantress of Numbers
The world’s first programmer was a girl! The daughter of Lord Byron no less. In fact, she was Lord Byron’s only legitimate child.
I find this fascinating because we live in a time where women are not renowned for being particularly interested in math or programming, and yet the mere idea of programming was practically launched by a woman who was particularly interested in math. And to quote Wikipedia, “She also foresaw the capability of computers to go beyond mere calculating or number-crunching while others, including Babbage himself, focused only on these capabilities.”

Website Project Timeline
Have you ever thought about the nature of a schedule? What is it good for?
Well, the obvious answer is that it’s good for setting and remembering dates. But there’s another reason beyond this that is integral to completing a good project: seeing how your tasks fit in with your other team members’ tasks.
PostRank?
Google has acquired another company. No, it’s not WonderWebz. It’s a company called PostRank.
In a recent article on the Google Webmaster Blog, Google discussed how they will be looking for new ways to rank websites, and considering their acquisition of PostRank, it will have a lot to do with the following:
- user approval of individual posts
- social interaction with posts (comments, retweet, sharing to Facebook)
- no spelling, stylistic, or factual errors on posts
- up-to-date WordPress integration
It seems Google is about to help clean up the Internet! I was especially excited to see that Google will now email Webmasters to remind them that their WordPress sites need updating. Thanks, Google!
E’ tu Microsoft?
I have to laugh at Microsoft’s website, theie6countdown.com
We web developers have been complaining about IE6 ever since it came out ten years ago, but now Microsoft is finally counting down the days until IE6 is gone.
They are apparently waiting for the rest of the world (mainly China) to stop using it, but thankfully only 2.3% of Americans are still using the antiquated browser.
So if you’d like to join the cause, you can get a banner here for your website, letting IE6 users know it’s time to upgrade!
Wish List
Sometimes we might not know what we want until we see it.
In the land of web design, the sky is the limit as far as content goes, which can make it a daunting task to narrow down all the features you might like displayed on your site.
